Ashleigh Barty may have had a disappointing end to her time in the Australian Open, but you’d never know it; the 23-year-old Aussie had an amazingly positive outlook, thanks to her adorable baby niece!
Ashleigh brought her 11-week-old niece, Olivia or “Liv” (as she was lovingly referred to by her aunt) to the post-match presser following her surprise 7-6, 7-5 loss to Sofia Kenin, using this unconventional moment to kick disappointment’s ass with her incredibly positive attitude.
In her interview, the 2019 French Open champion Ashleigh bounced her precious baby niece on her lap and among many things, explained that Liv was proof of all the things that matter outside of just winning a sports game:
“This is what life’s all about. Perspective is a beautiful thing. Life is a beautiful thing. She brought a smile to my face as soon as I came off the court. I got to give her a hug. It’s all good.”
She also admitted that she was outplayed in the tight match, and gave kudos to Sofia Kenin, saying she earned the win and the respect that comes along with it.
Ashleigh Barty may not have won the Australian Open, but she won the hearts of everyone in the press room… including mine 🙂
